019-space-shuttle-2001-dixon – in an homage to Kubrick's 2001, a sleek, silver spacecraft with delta wings maneuvers in low Earth orbit. The vehicle is angled toward a double-ringed, rotating wheel space station visible in the mid-ground against the blackness of space. A large portion of the Earth’s limb occupies the left side of the frame, showing textured, bright blue oceans and complex white cloud patterns. Oil on canvas panel, 1970.
